Magnetic cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by a multistep strategy in aqueous phase. The structure, morphology and superparamagnetic behavior of the synthesized nanoparticles were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and the particle size was confirmed using dynamic light scattering (DLS). The synthesized cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were characterized by (1)H-NMR spectroscopy and a proton adsorption isotherm (pH(mw)). The results indicated that the iron oxide nanoparticles were highly crystallized. At pH 6.0, the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles showed superparamagnetic behavior and a saturation magnetization of 7.3 emu/g. At pH 9.0, the superparamagnetic behavior of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles was maintained and the saturation magnetization value increased to 30.1 emu/g. Dye adsorption experiments demonstrated that the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles have a good sorption capacity toward Rhodamine B (RhB). The removal efficiency was studied by RhB as a target pollutant. The catalytic reduction of nitric oxide (NO) with ammonia (NH(3)) in the presence of the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles was investigated.
